Go on a Mapping Adventure

Do you want to feel like a surveyor, mapping out a strange land? Well, OpenStreetMaps is for you.

OpenStreetMaps is world map build as a collaboration of regular people all over the world, like Wikipedia-ified Google Maps or Apple Maps.

If you’re in a volunteering mood, it can be fun to contribute info about your local area to the map!

Street Complete is an app for Android that directs you to local places and asks you questions like

  • Is there still a bike path here?
  • What are the hours of this cafe?
  • Is there parking on this street?

If you’re not an Android user or if you just feel like staying in, there’s also mapcomplete.org. This has even more options of questions to answer like:

  • Etymology: What is this street named after?
  • Playgrounds: Locate local playgrounds and benches
  • Waste: Highlight public trash & recycling cans
  • Vending Machines: Point out vending machines & what they sell
  • Artwork: Show where to find public paintings, sculptures, and other art
  • and tons more things: Clocks, Mailboxes, Trees, Surveillance Cameras, etc
